Tommy Tidwell Memorial Public Parks State Championship

Dates and location:  June 6th (after 3:00 pm), 7th and 8th, Lagoon Park, 2855 Lagoon Park Drive, Montgomery AL

Accepting online registrations for the following divisions:

- Boys and Girls Singles 12, 14, 16, 18

- Men and Women Singles NTRP 3.5, 4.0, 4.5

- Mixed Doubles (ages 35 and over, ages 45 and over)

- Family Events:  Father/Son, Mother/Daughter, Parent/Child Doubles

Price:  $30 singles, $20 per doubles player

- This tournament will feature a Friday night catered social event, complete with a live band.

- Pizza and beverages will be served for players on Saturday. 

- Finals will be on stadium court, with ball girls from AUM women’s team.

Format:  best two of three sets, no ad, third set match tiebreak, first to 10 points by two.  Finals format:  First to 8 games by 2, a 12 point tiebreak will be played at 7 games all.

Limit two events per person, the second event must be a family event.

We have secured group rates at three local hotels, contact me for more info.

The national championship is in New Orleans, late July.  Division winners will receive a monetary award equal to the registration for the national championship.

Hello Everyone.

Spring Break Tennis is just two weeks away.  Please be a volunteer teacher and become a very important part of this award winning program.  This is a way for you to pass on your love of tennis to the children of Huntsville and receive, in return, the satisfaction of knowing you have made a positive difference in the life of a child.

We are on the courts from 9:00 to 11:00, Monday, March 17 - Thursday, March 20.  We use 16 courts and usually have about 300 kids.  They always have a great time and appreciate the efforts of our volunteers. To successfully staff the courts,  50 volunteers are needed.  If you can help one day or all four days, please contact me at  jaydottie@knology.net.

You are the backbone of this event, but the children are the true beneficiaries of your willingness to give back to tennis.  Thank you so much for considering this opportunity to serve our tennis community and impact the lives of Huntsville’s youth.

New this Spring….

School/Jr. Team Tennis

Huntsville Area USTA Jr. Team Tennis will have a school league this Spring beginning March 28 – May 2, 2008 in addition to the summer league this year. (Jr Team Tennis Registration Form)

USTA School/Jr. Team Tennis will be 6 week program of recreational match play at Huntsville Tennis Center for boys and girls, ages 8 to 14, who want to play tennis on teams based on school zones. In USTA Team Tennis, the team concept emphasizes fun, fitness and friends.

Teams ideally consist of a minimum of 6 players, 3 boys and 3 girls. The teams compete against other teams in one of three intermediate divisions: 10 & under, 12 & under, or 14 & under in singles and doubles. Intermediate play is for players who can rally and serve the ball. Match play will be Fridays 4 – 5:30.
